Travis Tritt Went to Outer Space!

Well, kinda…sorta. Commander of the International Space Station, Chris Cassidy made a music video for Travis Tritt’s, “Great Day to be Alive.” It’s awesome. (Don’t miss the tattoo at 2:43, and Fu Man Chu at 2:50.) Check it out:

What a bananas update! Yesterday was a great day for finally biking for over an hour and getting a steady flow of donations. My endurance isn’t what it used to be! I think this could be my personal best day of the week. I am planning to do somewhere between 6 to 8 miles tonight.

Day 1: Kick-Off – Zero Miles (0)
Day 2: Sunday Fun Day – 6.5 Miles (6.5)
Day 3: Earned a Burrito – 7 Miles (13.5)
Day 4: Pizza Night – 13 Miles (26.5)

73.4 Miles to go!

I had half a pizza after the ride…undoing any good from the ride.

Fun fact! The Goat Yoga people donated to the cause. I miss them so much and it is amazing that they reach out! Don’t know goat yoga? Check this out from 2017!

Tour de Frederick #2: 13.5 Miles and $400

Food-motivated. I promised myself a burrito if I did more miles than day 2! This was a great idea, but I really need a double digital day to make up for zero mile Saturday. Gotta keep going for the Tour de Frederick!!!!
Donations: $400!
Day 1: Kick-Off – Zero Miles (0)
Day 2: Sunday Fun Day – 6.5 Miles (6.5)
Day 3: Earned a Burrito – 7 Miles (13.5)
86.4 Miles to go!

I also donated to myself. I only need $100 more to hit my first fundraising goal for the Boys & Girls Club of Frederick County

Gabby’s Good News: Teens Create Free Online Tutoring

In the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, high school senior Ajay Sachdev spent some time helping other students on an online tutoring site and even made some money doing it.

However, Ajay realized that not everyone can afford private lessons. So he collaborated with two classmates and  created a new and FREE tutoring website. Specifically designed to help those who were struggling with remote learning.

The tutoring service is called Smartly. It allows users to send in questions about their homework and get emailed responses from one of the site’s 25 volunteer tutors at no cost.

This website gained a huge response among remote learning students. And the best part? There’s no shortage of students who want to volunteer as tutors.

Now with the new school year about to begin again, Ajay and his partners hope to be able to serve many more students, especially those who will begin the year learning from home. (NJ.com)

So far, I have 6.5 miles done and have managed to raise $350 for the Boys and Girls Club! I have a lot of work to do, but all the support will make this a blast. Let’s see how I do tomorrow!

{Katie’s Kitchen} Turkey Taco Lettuce Wraps!

Brought to you by Catoctin Mountain Orchard.

We’re getting healthy this week!!

A great summer meal- it’s light and refreshing and it’s TACOS!

For this recipe I used a pound of ground turkey meat and cooked it and then added taco seasoning according to the McCormick’s seasoning packet.

Then while that was cooking I chopped red onion, tomatoes, avocado and got my cheese ready.

I got fresh romaine lettuce and washed and dried it then picked the larger leaves that looked like the best taco “wrap.”

Once the turkey taco meat was finished- I laid our my lettuce wraps, and topped my tacos with my favorite toppings!

INGREDIENTS:

-Ground Turkey

-tomato

-red onion

-taco seasonings: cumin, paprika and chili powder OR Seasoning packet

-romaine lettuce

-cheese
