Most people refer to the day before the start of Lent as ‘Fat Tuesday’.
In the Frederick Region, we affectionately call this day ‘Kinkling Day’.
So, what are kinklings and why do we love them?
Kinklings are mainly sold in bakeries on Shrove Tuesday. These tasty treats are German. They are made from a yeast dough, deep fried, and coated or dusted in powdered sugar or cinnamon sugar. They may be plain or filled with fruit jam.
Gary Smith, owner of the Jefferson Pastry Shoppe, said he expects to sell between 850-1000 dozen kinklings today.
“We have been baking since yesterday morning, and will be working all day long,” Smith said.
are you wondering how fattening these delectable delights are? According to MyFitnessPal an average fasnacht contains 217 calories, 12 grams of fat and 24 grams of carbohydrates. FatSecret reports kinklings have around 485 calories, 6.7 grams of fat and 92.9 grams of carbs.

Fans ask artists for all sorts of crazy things, but there’s one request that Jennifer Nettles finds the most intriguing. Whenever one of her fans asks the country star to sign or write something that they plan to get tattooed on their body, she can’t help but feel flattered.
Jennifer Nettles:“For me, I love the art of tattoo, and it is such an intimate and personal art form. And the fact that people connect with my lyrics and then want them to be in my own handwriting, that’s something for me that feels pretty special and pretty unique.”

If you’ve watched Michael Ray’s video for “Think a Little Less,” you’re sure to have noticed the beautiful model that stars alongside the country newcomer. Dustin Lynch: “I will say this, I’ve noticed recently, of course, it’s natural, but my eyes always find the brightest clothes in the crowd. You know, cuz there’s so many lights in our eyes. So, like, there was this one girl that was wearing a chartreuse shirt. The whole night, I’m scanning just singing to her for half of the song. Just because she was the only person I could see.”
It looks like the warm sunny weather in February is coming at a price. People are starting to suffer with spring allergies.
Pollen is one of the most common allergens in the United States. Pollen is an airborne allergen, which is picked up and carried by the wind. Different types of trees, grasses and weeds create pollen, which can cause hay fever, irritate your eyes and skin.
Some doctors encourage their patients with pollen allergies to begin taking their allergy medications on Valentine’s Day each year. This is to hopefully avoid the inflammation pollen allergies create in the body which leads to itching, coughing, sneezing, runny noses, watery eyes and for others asthma.

Although Chris Young loves to entertain his fans, stage stunts just aren\’t his style — especially if they involve being off the ground.
Chris Young: “No, I don’t think I’m ever gonna fly above the audience by wire. Uh-uh. Heights are not my thing. [laughs] I’ll have to come up with something else that’s cool instead.”
