The Other Sandwiches THEY ARE ALL GREAT

How’d they get their name?

Have you ever wondered how some Fast Food spots got their names?

From Arby’s to Wendy’s, we love our fast food. Ever wonder how these restaurants got their names? Dictionary.com explains what’s in a name — specifically, how 10 of our favorites got their name.

1. Arby’s
The chain was founded by the Raffel Brothers. The name comes from the enunciation of the initials of two words…RB.

2. Blimpie
Three New Jersey high school friends founded the subway sandwich chain in 1964. They decided against using the words “hoagie” or “subway,” and settled on Blimpie when one of them saw the word “blimp” in the dictionary and thought it sounded like a sandwich.

3. Burger King
It was founded in Jacksonville, Florida in 1953 with the name Insta-Burger King. After it was sold to new owners, they shortened the name.

4. McDonald’s
The name comes from the founders, Dick and Mac McDonald. The brothers started the restaurant in 1940 and sold it to Ray Kroc in 1955, who (obviously) kept the name.

5. Popeyes
Contrary to conventional wisdom, the chicken chain, founded by Alvin Copeland in 1972, was named after the character Popeye Doyle in “The French Connection” and not after the cartoon character. Eventually, Popeyes management gave in and licensed use of the cartoon character.

6. Starbucks
The name comes from the “Moby Dick” character Starbuck because it “evoked the romance of the high seas and the seafaring tradition of the early coffee traders,” says the company’s website.

7. Subway
On the advice of a friend named Peter Buck, Fred DeLuca started a sandwich shop in 1965 because he wanted to go to medical school. Buck thought it would be a good way for DeLuca to earn the tuition money. Because of his friend’s encouragement and financial assistance starting the restaurant, DeLuca named it Pete’s Super Submarines. The name was changed to Subway in 1968. DeLuca never went to medical school.

8. Taco Bell
Glen Bell, the founder, just combined the No. 1 menu item with his last name.

9. TCBY
Originally the acronym meant “This Can’t Be Yogurt,” but after the company was sued by a similarly-named competitor, it was changed to “The Country’s Best Yogurt.”

10. Wendy’s
Dave Thomas, who founded the business in Columbus, Ohio in 1969, named it after his daughter, Wendy.

{Katie’s Baby Blog} 5 Months Old!

So many things change from month to month with a growing little one. We are having so much fun with our Lily girl at 5 months old and can’t believe how fast she is learning and trying new things.

Since last month she can now roll over both ways, she is sitting up on her own, talking NON-STOP (jibber jabber, of course- although she might be saying Da-da), trying new foods, playing with toys,

sleeping in her own crib through the night and growing like a weed; I am going through clothes so fast for her! and, she loves blowing raspberries.

As much as I said each month has been my favorite with her…this month has been so exciting.

Looking back, the newborn stage is so hard and tiring and I barely remember some days…we were just going through the motions.

Five months old is great for so many reasons- it’s fun to watch Lily learn new things, but she’s still my little baby with a squishy face and chubby thighs that I can carry around.  I’m enjoying this stage for the next couple of months before she starts crawling, walking and running around, and life gets even busier.

Who knows, i’ll probably say I like that stage even more once it gets here!

Also, with the warmer weather and spring/summer holidays coming up, I can’t wait to experience all of the fun “firsts” with her like Easter, the beach, the pool, family events and everything in between.

{Katie’s Kitchen} Easter Haystacks

Peanut butter, butterscotch and chocolate! What more could you want in an Easter treat?

Haystacks are delicious and easy to make, but this was my first time trying them out!

All you need are crunchy chow mein noodles, butterscotch chips and peanut butter for this recipe! I also used little Easter egg chocolates for on top, so they’d look like bird nests!

For this recipe I used a muffin tin, so they were all the same size. This is a no bake recipe, which makes it even easier.

Start by adding a cup of peanut butter and a bag of butterscotch chips, then melt in the microwave– 2-3 times at 30 second intervals. Stir melted mixture.

In another bowl, pour your peanut butter and butterscotch over 4 cups of chow mein noodles. Gentle mix so your noodles are evenly covered.

Then, spoon into a muffin pan and let sit until it hardens. You can put it in the refrigerator, too. Add three colorful chocolate eggs on top and ENJOY!

Ingredients:

-1 cup peanut butter (creamy)

-1 bag of butterscotch chips

-4 cups chow mein noodles

-1 bag of easter chocolate eggs
