{Katie’s Baby Blog} Dinner Out is Not As Fun Anymore!

I think this is the start of us getting take-out instead of sitting in the restaurant when we feel like eating out!

At 7 months old, Lily is on the move and very curious about everything. So last night, a Monday at 4:00 p.m., while my husband, Lily and I were at a restaurant in Frederick, Lily decided that she wasn’t going to just sit in her seat and be quiet while we were out anymore.

My sweet little girl has always been so easy to take everywhere, especially restaurants! We thought we were super lucky with such a quiet baby.

I guess 7 months is where they really “find their voice.” She was growling, and doing a high pitched yell, that she learned recently from the other kids at daycare.  So…I tried giving her a squeeze pack of carrots because I thought maybe she was hungry early, nope. She spit it all back out as us. Orange all over her pretty little dress and the table and our faces. Then, I thought i’d hold her while I ate…terrible idea. I had to push my bowl back a foot away from the edge of the table so she would stop reaching for it. I did not want buffalo sauce all over myself.

So, I decided to put her back into her car seat, which was sitting on a sling up high next to the table. Screaming and growling started again. Out she comes, again. This time Tim holds her so I can eat quickly. She wants down, she wants the fork, and she’s throwing her toy on the floor over and over again.

At that point, I said, let’s just finish what we can, get a box for the rest and go! Thirty- forty minutes total and we’re in and out. Finally taking a breath, once we get in the car and sit down.

Two minutes later…

…she’s asleep and I want to take her out and snuggle her again 😉

A Guy Burned His Truck Rescuing People from a Fire, So Toyota Gave Him a New One . . . and Added Burn Marks

photos via Rockstar Garage/ Wise Brother Media

Allyn Pierce is an intensive care unit nurse in Paradise, California.  And last year, he risked his life to save his patients from the Camp Fire, which was the deadliest wildfire in state history.

He used his Toyota Tundra to shuttle patients to safety when the fire spread and got too close to the hospital.  He went back and forth multiple times.  And the flames got so close, his doors were charred and his tail lights melted.

But he doesn’t have to worry about replacing it.  Because Toyota heard about the story, and decided to replace it with a brand NEW Toyota Tundra.

They made a few modifications first:  Added a heavy-duty roof rack . . . bigger tires . . . a lift kit . . . and an on-board CO2 tank.

But here’s the coolest part:  His charred doors were kind of like a badge of honor.  So they did a custom paint job for him to RECREATE the look.  And they even gave it some texture where the paint on his old truck had boiled and bubbled up.

They gave him the new truck last November, but recently surprised him with the custom paint job.  And the first photos of it just hit Facebook.  (TheDrive)  (Wise Brother Media)

{Katie’s Kitchen} Strawberry Shortcakes

Mmmm….Strawberry Shortcakes. The ULTIMATE dessert for summer…or anytime of the year. But, it just taste so good with fresh strawberries!

Start out by pre-heating your oven to 425 degrees.

Grab a mixing bowl and stir together strawberries and 1/2 cup sugar; set aside.  In another mixing bowl, stir Bisquick mix, milk, 3 tablespoons sugar, and melted butter until a thick, but soft dough forms.

Drop the dough by rounded tablespoonfuls into 6 mounds onto an un-greased cookie sheet; then add a little sprinkle of sugar.

Bake your dough for 10 to 12 minutes or until golden brown.

While that’s cooking, in a small bowl whip the cream, adding a drop or two of vanilla and a teaspoon of sugar. Beat with an electric mixer on high speed until soft peaks form.

Once its finished, take out your dough and you can serve your Strawberry Shortcake one of two ways…

1. Slice the warm shortcakes in half; layer with strawberries and whipped cream, or

2. Break up one biscuit per person into big pieces into a dessert bowl and pour strawberries over the biscuit; add a dollop of whipped cream on top! YUM!

Ingredients: I got the recipe here

  • cups strawberries, stems removed and sliced
  • 2cup sugar
  • 1cups original Bisquick baking mix
  • 1cup milk
  • tablespoons butter, melted
    WHIPPED TOPPING
  • 1cup whipping cream
  • a few drops of vanilla extract
  • teaspoon sugar
