The Foxie G Foundation

On September 14, 2012, The Foxie G Foundation was established to honor the memory and enjoyment of the life of a phenomenal racehorse named Foxie G. This 501(c)(3) provides rescue, rehabilitation, rehoming and sanctuary for Thoroughbreds, whether off the track or not. Through our adoption program, these horses are given the opportunity to find new homes and often a new career.

In addition to the horses, felines could not be forgotten. The need for low-cost spay/neuter, TNR and adoption programs has increased substantially with the economy and rise in outdoor and feral cat populations. Through public education, affordable veterinary services and matching cats and kittens with forever homes, The Foxie G Foundation can have a direct hand in offering a positive solution to a rapidly growing issue.

Good & Weird News!

Good News! FIRE STATION GIVES SPECIAL TOUR FOR KIDS WITH AUTISM

Fire stations across the country are well known for opening their doors for tours so kids can get a sense of what it’s like to be a firefighter. These tours often involve lights and sirens, because most kids enjoy the big sights and sounds.

But a fire station in Mishawaka, Indiana, changed the program just a bit when they invited some kids with autism to visit.

These kids were able to see the station — and even try on the uniforms.

But, the firefighters skipped the lights and sirens this time around because kids with autism process things differently in their brains — and can get rattled when things are too bright, loud or chaotic.

It ended up being a win-win. The children were able to enjoy much of the fun stuff that the firefighters were able to show off. And, the firefighters were exposed to these special kids and came away from the event with a greater understanding of how to serve them when stuff happens in the community. (WSBT-TV)

WEIRD NEWS: Naked Burglar Makes Himself Comfortable

A Tennessee man was arrested after he broke into a woman\’s home, drank some beers, had a snack and stripped down naked.

54-year-old Bethel Bailey explained that he was riding his bike late at night and got a flat tire. He knocked on the front door of a house he was near to ask about getting a ride home, but no one answered the door. So he went around to the back, discovered that the back door was open and let himself in.

No one was home to ask for a ride, so he decided he would just wait for the homeowner to return. In the meantime, he figured he\’d help himself to a ham sandwich, some cookies and a few beers. He also figured he\’d wash the clothes he was wearing.

At around 6:00 in the morning, the homeowner came home and found Bailey standing in the hallway, wearing nothing but one of her blankets. She called police, who came and arrested him for aggravated burglary. (WMC-TV)

TATTOO ARTIST PAINTS MURAL FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT

In Maryland, a tattoo artist used his skills to help the local fire department.

Taylor O’Cuinn spent a day painting a freehand mural on the exterior wall of the Glen Burnie Volunteer Fire Company Lodge.

Before Taylor worked his magic, the lodge had an LED sign that couldn’t be turned off. The neighbors didn’t like this so much, so the manager of the lodge brought Taylor in to fix the problem.

He battled bugs and the blazing sun to get the work in one day, entirely freehand and free-of-charge.

Taylor enjoyed being able to do something for the community while using his talents and doing something he loves. (Capital Gazette)

60 DOGS COMPETE IN SURFING COMPETITION

Last weekend was exciting for 60 dogs and their owners in San Diego, California, as they all gathered to compete at the 13th annual Imperial Beach Surf Dog Competition. These dogs — of all shapes, sizes, breeds, and ages — hopped up on their surfboards and rode two- to four-foot waves toward the Imperial Beach Pier.

Some stood on their surfboards on four paws, while others made the trip lying down. Some of the rides were made with their owners, while others featured dogs riding tandem with another dog — one in front, one in back.

The event is organized each year to raise money for the San Diego Humane Society, which means the dogs and the owners were all having a blast for a good cause. (San Diego Union Tribune)
