Work Underway On Improvements To Part Of US Rt. 40 A In Frederick County

It will involve improvements to the roadway in the Middletown area.

Frederick, Md (KM) Work has begun on improving the driving surface on a part of US Route 40-A in Frederick County. The State Highway Administration says the work started this week and will take place along US Route 40-A between Summerswood Drive and Edgemont Road in Middletown.

There will be single lane closures from 7:00 AM 3:00 PM weekdays. Crews will first make repairs to the surface depressions. That will be followed by milling operations where personnel remove the top layer of pavement, and install a new driving surface.

SHA says crews will modify the pavement markings on westbound US Route 40 A to merge two lanes into one starting at South Clifton Drive.

The contractor for this project, Francis O. Day Company based in Rockville,  will use electronic message boards, signs, barrels, and cones to alert motorists  about any lane closures while the project is underway.

The work is expected  to be completed by October weather permitting, SHA says.
