Work To Begin On Eastbound I-70 In Frederick County This Weekend

It’s expected to last through early May, weather permitting.

Frederick, Md (KM) Some road improvements are expected to get underway this weekend on Interstate 70 between the I-270 overpass and New Design Road in Frederick County.

The Maryland  Department of Transportation  State Highway Administration says beginning on Sunday, April 14th at 9:00 PM, crews will close the right lane of eastbound I-70 to repair roadway cracks and put down a new driving surface.

When that work is completed, crews will move to the left lane of eastbound I-70 which will require the closure of the on-ramp from southbound I-270. Motorists will be detoured to MD 85 or Buckeystown Pike to gain access to I-70.

The work will take place from Sundays through Thursdays from 9:00 PM until 4:00 AM

SHA says the entire project is expected to be completed by early May.

The contractor for the project, Francis O. Day Company of Frederick, will use electronic  boards, signs, cones and barrel to alert motorists  about lane closures and work zones.

That stretch of eastbound I-70 sees an average of  about  104,000 vehicles per day, SHA says.
