Westminster, Md (KM) Two Gettysburg, Pennsylvania residents were arrested in Carroll County, Maryland last week following a traffic stop.
The Sheriff’s Office says on Thursday just before 2:00 PM, deputies doing traffic enforcement in the area of Baltimore Boulevard as part of Pro-Active Community Enforcement (PACE) saw a GMC SUV following too close to a sedan in front of it; and a passenger not using his seatbelt. They pulled it over in the 500 block of Baltimore Boulevard.
The driver of the vehicle identified as Julia-Taylor Lease, 38, told deputies she had a firearm in her purse. It was secured by deputies.
Based on observations, a drug sniffing canine was called to the scene, and indicated a presence of drugs in the vehicle. . A search netted a digital scale, a cell phone and over $280 in cash.
A passenger in the vehicle, identified as Maurice Dennis Bray, 30, acted as if he was removing something from his pants leg, according to deputies. Authorities say they located the item which turned to be a plastic baggie with a white rock substance believed to be crack cocaine..
As Bray was being placed in handcuffs, the Sheriff Office says he ran off. He was apprehended, but continued to resist arrest. Bray was eventually placed on the ground, and put in handcuffs. .
The Sheriff’s Office says Lease does not have a permit to carry a concealed handgun in Maryland, and Bray is restricted from possessing a handgun in Maryland.
Both suspects were taken to the Carroll County Detention Center.
