Frederick, Md (KM) An open house for the new Frederick Police Department headquarters is scheduled or Monday, June 30th. Chief Jason Lando says there will be a ribbon cutting at 3:00 PM, followed by an open house which will last until 7:00 PM. “We’re really, really existed. Walked through it just a few days ago. We’re just putting the finishing touches on it. Now it looks amazing,” he says.
The new headquarters is located at 100 East All Saints Street. It was formerly the William Donald Schaefer Building, and it once housed the Department of Social Services. The City of Frederick purchased the building in 2021 to serve as a new police department headquarters It had been undergoing renovations for a few years.
“We did our very best to keep it within budget. A couple of adjustments here and there along the way for the cost of materials and what not,” Lando says. “But really proud of the entire team–the city side, the police side–everyone was able to get together and pull this off., and I think do it in record time from the start of the project.”
Chief Lando, who was a guest recently on WFMD’s “Morning News Express,” says the new headquarters will formally open as a police department on July 14th. “Our staff will be fully operational on July 14th in the building,” he says. “We’re going to take the next two weeks to work out any of the kinks and minor glitches with the technology and the AV type of stuff. So when we start on the 14th, we’re ready to rock-n-roll.”
The Chief asks anyone who wants to attend the open house on Monday to go to the Frederick Police Department Facebook page, look for a link and register. He says it will give the department an idea of how many people will be coming. Chief Lando also says citizens can walk through the new headquarters. Department staff will be on hand to answer questions.
