Hazardous Material Detected At Boonsboro High

The building was evacuated, but no one was injured.

Boonsboro, Md (KM) There were no injuries following a hazardous materials incident at Boonsboro High Monday morning.

At around 9:51 AM, , Washington County officials say 40 emergency first responders were sent to the school on Campus Drive when a substance was discovered in the mechanical room. Students and staff were evacuated to the stadium, and then moved to Boonsboro Elementary and Middle Schools.

Fire officials say personnel investigated the hazardous material which was Halocarbon 22, which is known as Freon 22.. It leaked when the air conditioning unit was being serviced. . They quickly worked to contain the material, and ventilate  the building.

Washington County Public Schools says Boonsboro High students were dismissed at 11:15 AM.
