Frederick County Joins Effort To Get PSC To Dismiss PSEG Application

PSEG wants to build the MPRP.

Frederick, Md (KM) Frederick County has joined with Carroll County in asking the Public Service Commission to dismiss a request from PSEG to build the Maryland Piedmont Reality Project. That’s according to Councilman Steve McKay who made that announcement in a Facebook posting on Friday, October 31st.

On Tuesday, October 28th, Carroll County and other parties asked the PSC to dismiss PSEG’s application for a Certificate of Public Convenience and Necessity (CPCN) to build this line. . The utility has told the Commission it needs the approval so the line can become operational by June, 2027. in order to meet contractual deadlines. Opponents say this is not feasible and have asked the PSC to dismiss the application request.

McKay says the day after the hearing, he sent a request to County Executive Jessica Fitzwater that Frederick County should file a similar motion before the PSC.  But on Friday, McKay says County Executive Fitzwater had agreed to stand with Carroll County and other parties and support the request to dismiss the application. She had already made that decision before receiving his e-mail, says McKay..

“Just as I had criticized the County Executive’s prior decision {not to file an amicus brief supporting efforts to get the PSC to dismiss the PSEG application}, I feel that it’s important to praise this decision,” McKay said in his Facebook post. “It’s the right thing to do, and I’m actually very pleased that it didn’t take my argument to make it happen.”

MPRP is a proposed 67-mile  electric  transmission line extending from northern Baltimore County, through central Carroll County and southern Frederick County ending at the Doubs substation in Adamstown.

PSEG is expected to file a response by November 14th, 2025. After which, the PSC will consider the next steps.
