Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick County Health Department says the recent drug and sharps take back day was a big success. During the event on April 27th, 115 residents turned over 250 pounds of unwanted or expired medications, and more than 16,000 sharps at the two collection sites. .
“We thank our Frederick County community for turning out in full force despite the rainy conditions to dispose of medications and syringes safely. Proper disposal of unwanted medications and sharps helps keep our community safe,” sass Nate Smith, the Health Department’s Opioid Misuse Prevention Program Coordinator, in a statement.. “We are incredibly grateful to our community partners who came out and gave part of their Saturday to make this event a success. A huge thank you to the Frederick City Police Department, Maryland State Police and the DEA for helping to staff our event.”
The next take back day for medicines and sharps is scheduled for Saturday, June 22rd at the Walkersville Volunteer Fire Company, 79 West Frederick Street in Walkersville , from 9:00 AM until 12:00 noon.
Residents who won’t be able to attend the upcoming take back event can drop off their unwanted or expired pills and medicinal patches at seven locations around the county They are:
· Brunswick Police Department – 811 West Potomac Street, Brunswick (open 24hrs a day)
· Emmitsburg Community Center – 300 South Seton Avenue, Emmitsburg (open M-F 8AM – 4:30 PM)
· Frederick Co. Law Enforcement Center – 110 Airport Drive East, Frederick (open 24hrs a day)
· Frederick Police Department – 100 West Patrick Street, Frederick (open 24hrs a day)
· Middletown Municipal Center – 301 Main Street, Middletown (M-F 8AM – 4PM)
· Myersville Municipal Center – 31 West Main Street, Myersville (M-F 9AM – 4PM)
· Thurmont Police Department – 800 East Main Street, Thurmont (M-F 8AM – 4PM)
