Frederick County Health Department Calls Recent Drug Take Back Day A ‘Success’

It says 200 pounds of medications, and 10,000 sharps were collected.

Frederick, Md (KM) The Frederick County Health Department is calling the recent drug take back day on Saturday, April 26th a success. . The agency says almost 200 pounds of unwanted or expired medications were turned in, along with ten-thousand sharps. They include syringes, needles, lancets and auto injectors. These materials will be turned over to the US Drug Enforcement Administration which will incinerate them.

“Thank you to our community and partners who came out on a rainy Saturday to make this event a success. Despite the weather we had a solid turnout and an impressive number of sharps and syringes to dispose of,” says Nate Smith, the Health Department’s  Misuse Prevention Program Coordinator, in a statement. “We greatly appreciate the Frederick Police Department, Maryland State Police and the DEA for helping to staff the event, and most of all, we thank our Frederick community for turning out to dispose of  medications and syringes safely which helps keep our community safe.”

Another drug take back day is scheduled for Saturday, June 21st at the Brunswick Police Department at 811 West Potomac Street. The hours will be from 10:00 AM until 1:00 PM.  The Health Department says medications  in pill form only and sharps can be dropped off, no questions asked. .

If you can’t make that, the Health Department says there are a number places around Frederick County where you can get rid of unwanted or expired medications year round. They are:

*Brunswick Police Department, 811 West Potomac Street, Brunswick

*Emmitsburg Community Center, 300 South Seton Avenue, Emmitsburg.

*The Frederick County Law Enforcement Center, 110 Airport Drive, Frederick

*Middletown Municipal Center, 301 Main Street, Middletown

*Myersville Municipal Center, 31 West Main Street, Myersville

*Thurmont Police Department, 800 East Main Street, Thurmont. .
