Bets At The Office – A Good Thing?

They happen all the time and in the end, someone is declared the winner, while the other has to ‘pay’ up.  They are bets – and often provide good fun in offices across the country.

Co-workers will bet on everything from March Madness to pay-for-play fantasy football.  It’s a chance for camarade and good-natured sports wagering.

Trash-talking each other’s favorite teams may seem like harmless workplace fun, but actual betting is illegal.

According to Entrepreneur.com, the Professional and Amateur Sports Protection Act of 1992 banned betting on professional and amateur sports in most states.

Penalties can range from fines to felony charges and possible imprisonment, depending on state statutes, the size of the pool and other factors.

That’s why at the WFRE – we like physical labor bets. Like the one Brian Mo had with Dianah Gibson and Katie Ryan.  Brian said the Pittsburgh Penguins would beat the Washington Capitals January 11, 2017.  They lost!  Now Brian has to ‘pay’ up and wash the girls’ cars.

Get your scrubbing arm ready….there is a lot of dirt on salt on their cars:)

So this is happening…

The next fast food freak out is coming out on January 26th at Taco Bell. To be honest, I don’t think that the “Naked Chicken Chalupa” is that big of a deal and really doesn’t touch the Double Down legacy. At the end of the day it is basically one piece of chicken with lettuce on it. It is no Double Down Dog! Now that was a monster.

Are you excited to try out this fried chicken taco thing? It is going to be $2.99

Entertainment Update – 01/11/17

  • Shania Twain will get a display at the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Nashville this year. The exhibit opens on June 26th and runs through June 17th, 2018.
  • Looking at Ronnie Dunn, you’d probably never know that he got his first and only tattoo just a few years ago. And when he came home with the word cowboy tattooed in big lettering on his forearm, everyone who knew him was stunned.
  • Brett Young has a new single titled “In Case You Didn’t Know,” so we had to find out something that not many people know about the country newcomer. Turns out, Brett might be one of the tallest guys in country music, but his dog doesn’t mimic his stature.

Good News 01/11/17

Here is the full story for today’s Good News story.

10-year-old Tyler Boone has spent the last two years growing his hair without a haircut, but not as a fashion statement. Instead, his goal was to grow it long enough to be able to donate it to his friend Gabby Ruiz.

You see, Gabby has been diagnosed with Alopecia, which is a disorder that prevents her body from growing her own hair.

So, Tyler grew his hair to 12 inches long – and then recently allowed Gabby to give him the big haircut. The hair will now be turned into a wig for Gabby.

While family and friends marvel at Tyler’s heart of gold, Tyler doesn’t think it’s a big deal, explaining that “it’s just hair” and that he can grow hair anytime. (ABC News)

What a great story!

Old iPhones – Do You Have Any?

10 YEARS LATER, SOME PEOPLE ARE STILL HOLDING ONTO THEIR ORIGINAL iPHONES

Believe it or not, it’s been 10 years since the original iPhone was introduced.

all-apple-iphones

Since then, iPhones – and all the smartphones that followed – have gotten better and faster.

But that doesn’t matter to some people, who have held onto their original iPhone for all these years.

It seems some people have kept their old gadget because they’re sentimental, while others were thinking ahead and are now selling them for thousands of dollars. And then there are the people who like their old iPhone because it’s steady and reliable, even if it’s old!

The hidden Monopoly vote you need to rock!

The game that wrecks parties, friendships and families is about to get a lot weirder if you don’t stop it! Monopoly is running a vote right now to determine their new pieces. Remember how a cat replaced the iron a few years ago? That could happen with every piece. Vote Now.

Fun Fact. They didn’t include the 2013 robot that lost to the cat.

Here is the B-Team Voter Card for this:

The Cole Swindell video that Bachelor girl was in

I got schooled in the ways of the Bachelor by Melissa today on Holly’s show. My favorite part (other than my future victory of their fantasy league) was finding out that one of the contestants was in a Cole Swindell music video. Danielle is the star of the Middle of a Memory video! No time code needed! She is all over this video!

You can join the Bachelor fantasy team here. Let’s get some more dudes in this league!

Good News! Mailman helps a dog

Here is today’s Good News Story! This is my favorite part of covering Holly’s show. Here is the best friend story of a mail man and dog!

Often, mail carriers don’t get along with neighborhood dogs. But this isn’t the the case for Jeff Kramer of Boulder, Colorado, who formed a special bond with a 14-year-old black lab named Tashi.

For years, with his tail wagging, Tashi has been greeting Jeff each day.

These days, though, Tashi isn’t moving around as well and isn’t able to bound down the steps to hang out with Jeff.

For a while, Tashi’s owner was carrying Tashi up and down the stairs to make sure Jeff could say hello to the dog.

And then, Jeff got the bright idea to install a ramp for Tashi, allowing the dog to get in and out of the house easily, and ensuring that the two friends can continue to enjoy their daily visits. (KUSA-TV)

Thank You To Law Enforcement

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan declared January 9, 2017 as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in the state.

This coincided with National Law Enforcement Day.

To show support for Maryland’s law enforcement officials, the Government House was lit blue for the night.

“Maryland’s law enforcement officers are some of the bravest and most courageous men and women in uniform anywhere in the country, and I am honored to declare today as Law Enforcement Appreciation Day in recognition of their complete dedication to the protection of our citizens,” Gov. Hogan said.

In recognition and celebration of Law Enforcement Appreciation Day, Governor Hogan met with officers from the Maryland State Police, Natural Resources Police, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Maryland Transit Administration Police, Maryland Capitol Police, and Baltimore City School Police. He also met with representatives from the Maryland Chapter of Concerns of Police Survivors, an organization that provides resources for families and coworkers of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty.
