Total Solar Eclipse – Will We See It?

North America will be treated to a rare sight! On Monday, August 21, 2017, a total solar eclipse will take place. This path, where the moon will completely covers the sun and the sun’s atmosphere – the corona – will be visible from Salem, Oregon to Charleston, South Carolina.

For those who live outside of the path of the total eclipse,  you will be able to see a partial solar eclipse where the moon covers part of the sun’s disk.

Travel companies report hotels in the total eclipse area have been booked for two years.  Authorities are urging everyone to use extreme caution when traveling on all roadways in the total eclipse’s path.

In our region we will see a partial solar eclipse on August 21, 2017.  The event will begin at 1:17 PM. Maximum coverage will be at 2:42 PM, and the partial eclipse will end at 4:01 PM.  The whole event will last for 2 hours and 44 minutes.

New Ken Dolls

Mattel just introduced a new line of Ken dolls.  These new dolls are to be more reflective of today’s men.

There are 15 new looks for Ken and three body types: slim, broad and original. Some Kens might come with dad bods instead of six packs. Ken will also be available in a variety of skin tones, eye colors and hairstyles. Some things you will see on Ken are man buns, polka-dotted tees, and hipster glasses.

You can get some of the new Ken dolls for $9.99 now in select shops and online stores, Mattel reports they will be widely available July 8th.

I am still trying to process this new development!

Recall On Rawhides

United Pet Group, a division of Spectrum Brands, Inc. is voluntarily expanding its recall of multiple brands of packages of rawhide dog chew products to include our retail partners’ private label brands. The recall involves the brands and products described below.

United Pet Group previously initiated a voluntary recall of its branded products on 6/10/17 which included the following brands: American Beefhide, Digest-eeze, and Healthy Hide (including Healthy Hide – Good -n- Fun and Healthy Hide – Good -n- Fit).

The recall was initiated after  United Pet Group identified that certain of its rawhide chew manufacturing facilities located in Mexico and Colombia, as well as one of its suppliers in Brazil, were using a quaternary ammonium compound mixture as a processing aid in the manufacturing of rawhide chews. The compound is an anti-microbial chemical that is approved for cleaning food processing equipment, but it has not been approved in the U.S. as a processing aid in the production of rawhide chews for dogs.

United Pet Group received very limited reports of pet illness based on the volume of possibly affected rawhide chew products manufactured and distributed. The primary complaint received from consumers was that the affected product had an unpleasant odor. Diarrhea and vomiting were also reported.

Exposure to quaternary ammonium compounds through direct ingestion may cause the following symptoms in dogs: reduced appetite and gastric irritation, including diarrhea and vomiting. These symptoms may require treatment by a veterinarian depending on severity.

The affected product was distributed nationwide from United Pet Group’s Edwardsville, Illinois distribution facility and was delivered to consumers through various retail establishments, including online outlets. All of the dog chew products included in the voluntary recall identify an expiration date ranging from 06/01/2019 through 5/31/2020 located on the  back of the package with the exception of the Enzadent and Dentahex products which are listed by UPC codes below and specific expiration dates outlined below.

Teen Wears Pink To Avoid Jail!

Mark Anthony Doyle from Texas has learned a lesson about stealing.  To avoid going to jail for theft, the 17 year old wore pink women’s clothing, rain boots, a hat, and held a sign that read: “I stole over 30K from my boss and lied about it. I’m happy to be here.”

Brent Franklin is Doyle’s boss and hopes he never forgets stealing will not make you look cool.

Doyle took things from his boss and posted it on Snapchat trying to be cool.

Instead of calling police, Franklin called Doyle’s parents and they came up with the punishment.  He would stand on the corner of FM 242 and Interstate 45 in The Woodlands for two days with the sign and wearing women’s clothing as punishment.

Interesting People: Riverkeeper Brent Wells

What is a Riverkeeper? That question has been in the back of my mind since I met Brent Walls, the Upper Potomac Riverkeeper at River & Trail Outfitters on Sunday. In this interview we talk about what a Riverkeeper is, how we can help our water bodies, and the importance of knowing your local river.

Brent also uses the term Dark Green and I want a t-shirt about that now!

Good Samaritan Gives Man His Shoes

This is such a great story!

David Lee Witherspoon Jr. was leaving his volunteer shift at a food pantry in Phoenix, Arizona when he was shocked to see a man crawling across the road on all fours.

The volunteer immediately stopped his car and walked over to the man to ask what was wrong.

The man explained that he had become homeless because of an argument that he had had at his last place of residence. Without having time to grab a pair of shoes, he had run out the door in only his socks.

With temperatures in Arizona climbing well into the hundreds, the city tarmac had become scorchingly hot, which led the man to crawling with his shorts barely covering his knees, and his socks covering his hands.

Without hesitating, Witherspoon grabbed a spare pair of shoes and a water bottle from out of his car. He then carefully washed and dried the man’s feet before slipping on the footwear.

Random Early Facebook Live featuring Katie Ryan

We have been having trouble with our Facebook Live broadcasts so I teamed up with Melissa and Katie Ryan to figure things out. Katie didn’t know she was going to be a part of this. We talked about her cake. This could be your super last second chance to see pre-marriage Katie Ryan.

I need a nap.
