THOMAS RHETT: “Marry Me” Could Have Been His Life

You might think Thomas Rhett would find it hard to relate to his latest single, “Marry Me,” but it actually hits pretty close to home. Even though it’s hard to imagine him with anyone other than his adorable wife Lauren, Thomas says they easily could have ended up with other people.

Thomas Rhett: “Before we got married, I dated a girl for like five years that I thought I was going to marry. She dated a guy for like five years that she thought she was going to marry. And that song is basically about me being the narrator and being like, ‘What would my life have been like, if I had never gone over to her house and told her how I felt about her?’ It could have been my life very easily.”

DUSTIN LYNCH: Hometown Date Night

There aren’t many “date night” restaurants in Dustin Lynch’s tiny hometown of Tullahoma, Tennessee, but that’s OK. The “Small Town Boy” doesn’t need a fancy meal to impress a special someone.

Dustin Lynch: “For me, I would go to this little, kinda my getaway. It’s a cabin and a big spring-fed lake that’s way back off of any main road, and that would probably be my go-to if I was wanting to get romantic with somebody. And do the star thing, grill out, you know, play a little music and see where the night takes you.”

Tom’s Take {Battle of the Sexes}

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls…a perfect snapshot of equality in the workplace from a major media event in the early 70s. The much hyped tennis match between self proclaimed male chauvinist pig, Bobby Riggs versus the women’s lib icon, Billie Jean King.

This was in the early 70s and in 2018 is a major trending issue. King and the other female tennis players took a stand against the powers that be, risked their careers against unequal pay. They got their own sponsorship with Virginia Slims Cigarettes slogan “You’ve Come a Long Way Baby.” This was hyped more than Floyd Meyweather and Connor McGregor, more than the 2017 Eclipse. It was help in the Houston Astrodome, one of the 8 wonders of the world at the time.

Emma Stone is absolutely brilliant and Steve Carrell is the spitting image of Bobby Riggs.

Good News: Romance Theater

Back in 2001, the city of Rexburg, Idaho, purchased an old historical building called the Romance Theater and had plans to knock it down to make space for public parking. Luckily, they chose not to demolish the building — and that decision is now paying off, thanks to a local man who has made it his mission to bring the theater back to life.

Since 2016, Bill Hall has spent more than 700 hours renovating the Romance Theater.

There’s been lots of cleaning and painting — and as the inside improves, Bill believes there will be opportunities to get donation money to improve the exterior as well.

While Bill enjoys doing the renovation work, he also is happy to create something special for his community, which has cherished memories of the Romance Theater for generations. (Rexburg Standard Journal)

2017 Flashback – Rick Monroe

My first official adventure as a WFRE DJ was talking to Oregon about Rick Monroe never coming to that state. I noticed the factoid in his bio and called Travel Oregon instead of letting that bit of trivia go to waste. Here are the interviews:

We also joked about it in person:

We never got to Oregon and I want to change that. I just need to figure out how!

{Katie’s Kitchen} Chicken and Dumplings!!

Mmmmmm!!! It’s frigid cold, but this dish will warm you right up, straight out of the crock pot. It cooks all day long while you’re busy doing other things and only takes a little bit of prep. Definitely the “cheat” version of chicken and dumplings….but who doesn’t like that?!

Start out by grabbing your crock pot and putting it on high. Toss in a whole chopped onion and then add your 4 boneless skinless chicken breasts on top.

Next, in a mixing bowl, add a can of condensed cream of chicken soup, and a can of cream of celery soup. Then come all the spices, poultry seasoning, peppet, and parsley. Mix that all up together and spread on top of the chicken in the crock pot. Then, just pour in 2 cups of chicken broth over it all. Let that cook for 4 hours on high.

After 4 hours…chop up carrots, and grab your bag of defrosted peas and add them into the crock pot.

Then comes the fun part! pop open your can of biscuits (I used home style), and take all 8 and roll them out flat. Cut them into 4 strips each. Once you have your pile of biscuit strips, layer them on top of everything in the crock pot.

Mine only took about 40 minutes to cook, depending on the crock pot, it could be more like 60 mins.

Then, scoop out the chicken breasts and slightly shred the chicken (it will pretty much just fall apart), add the chicken back to the crock pot, and it will help break up the dumplings. Let it all cook for another 10 minutes and its done!

Take a BIG spoon and grab a bowl and get ready for deliciousness. I did think it needed a little salt added and I like a little pepper on top. We loved it, especially on a cold evening 🙂

Ingredients: I got the recipe here!

  • 1 large onion , diced
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of celery soup
  • 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
  • black pepper to taste
  • 4 skinless boneless chicken breasts
  • 2 cups low sodium chicken broth
  • 2 cups frozen vegetables or peas and carrots , defrosted
  • 1 can (8 pieces) refrigerated biscuits

Wanna see how I did it? Check out the pics below!!
