Interesting People #35: Tom and Alyssa Palermo of Light Side Floats

It all started with a broken ankle. I love the story of how Tom and Alyssa Palermo started Light Side Floats and brought flotation therapy to Frederick. This interview covers Tom’s history of chronic pain, the care behind the design of LSF, and their plans for expansion.

This is the 2nd married couple interview on the podcast!

{Katie’s Kitchen} Chicken and Shrimp Fajitas

Tender Chicken, juicy shrimp and onions and peppers bursting with flavor all over a warm tortilla…you’ve got me! Also, seriously soooo easy for a weeknight dinner. One pan and dinner is on the table quick.

Preheat the oven to 425 degrees and start choppin’! Green and red bell pepper (or whatever colors you like best) and a small red onion. Then slice chicken into thin pieces and peel your shrimp.

Toss it all into a bowl with olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, ground cumin, smoked paprika, and chili powder and mix together.

Grab a pan and spread it all out evenly and put into oven.
If you’re just doing shrimp, then cook for 14 mins and broil for another 2 just to give it a little extra crisp.

I did shrimp and chicken…so you want to cook the chicken for 20-22 mins.

Squeeze fresh lime juice over everything and heat up your tortillas.

andddd if you really want to get fancy.. break out the avocado, corn, cheese, and sour cream for toppings.

I got the recipe here!

Ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 pounds of shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced thin
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced thin
  • 1 small red onion, sliced thin
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons of extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon of kosher salt
  •  freshly ground pepper to taste
  • 2 teaspoon of chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of onion powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon of smoked paprika
  • lime
  • tortillas

Harvey Weinstein Slapped in the Face (SEE THE VIDEO)

Harvey Weinstein can expect negative reactions from people wherever he goes, but the disgraced movie mogul wasn’t expecting to be attacked at a restaurant.

Weinstein was eating dinner at a resort in Scottsdale, Arizona when he was approached by two men seated at the next table. One of the men tells TMZ that he walked up to Weinstein, told him he enjoyed his movies and asked for a photo. He claims Weinstein was belligerent and told him to go away. But the restaurant manager says Weinstein was gracious, said he’d rather not take a picture and then shook the man’s hand.

Later, as Weinstein left the restaurant, he was followed out by the two men and they got into a confrontation. One of the men yelled at Weinstein for his alleged sexual abuse of women and then tried to punch him in the face twice. The restaurant manager says neither punch landed, but Weinstein stumbled and nearly fell. In the end, everyone parted ways and Weinstein declined to press charges. (Premiere Prep)

See the video here!!

If we’re being honest….it looked more like a little slap than a punch.

Music City Updates! 01/10/18

THOMAS RHETT: “Marry Me” Could Have Been His Life

You might think Thomas Rhett would find it hard to relate to his latest single, “Marry Me,” but it actually hits pretty close to home. Even though it’s hard to imagine him with anyone other than his adorable wife Lauren, Thomas says they easily could have ended up with other people.

Thomas Rhett: “Before we got married, I dated a girl for like five years that I thought I was going to marry. She dated a guy for like five years that she thought she was going to marry. And that song is basically about me being the narrator and being like, ‘What would my life have been like, if I had never gone over to her house and told her how I felt about her?’ It could have been my life very easily.”

DUSTIN LYNCH: Hometown Date Night

There aren’t many “date night” restaurants in Dustin Lynch’s tiny hometown of Tullahoma, Tennessee, but that’s OK. The “Small Town Boy” doesn’t need a fancy meal to impress a special someone.

Dustin Lynch: “For me, I would go to this little, kinda my getaway. It’s a cabin and a big spring-fed lake that’s way back off of any main road, and that would probably be my go-to if I was wanting to get romantic with somebody. And do the star thing, grill out, you know, play a little music and see where the night takes you.”

Tom’s Take {Battle of the Sexes}

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls…a perfect snapshot of equality in the workplace from a major media event in the early 70s. The much hyped tennis match between self proclaimed male chauvinist pig, Bobby Riggs versus the women’s lib icon, Billie Jean King.

This was in the early 70s and in 2018 is a major trending issue. King and the other female tennis players took a stand against the powers that be, risked their careers against unequal pay. They got their own sponsorship with Virginia Slims Cigarettes slogan “You’ve Come a Long Way Baby.” This was hyped more than Floyd Meyweather and Connor McGregor, more than the 2017 Eclipse. It was help in the Houston Astrodome, one of the 8 wonders of the world at the time.

Emma Stone is absolutely brilliant and Steve Carrell is the spitting image of Bobby Riggs.
