Westminster, Md (KM) It’s an old story about a scam, but it bears repeating to keep others from falling victim.

The Carroll County Sheriff’s Office says it’s become aware of scammers who claim to be law enforcement officers contacting citizens and telling them they’ve missed jury duty.   These individuals also tell residents there’s a warrant out for their arrest, but they can pay their fine through gift cards or cash apps.

The Sheriff’s Office says police agencies do not demand payment from gift cards or cash apps.   Authorities say It’s best to hang up on these people, or delete their messages from your e-mail.

If you have any doubts about these calls, contact the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office Duty Officer at 410-386-5900, or your local police department.
