A Huge Congratulations (and Thank You) to Tom Whalen on His Retirement!

Today we’re tipping our hats to an absolute legend — Tom Whalen — as he steps into retirement. And while WFRE won’t feel quite the same without him on the air every day… his impact is going to be felt for a long, long time.

For over 13 years, Tom exclusively endorsed Jay Day And The Day Home Team at LPT Realty, and we’ll never take for granted what that kind of trust means.

Our weekly podcast was the very first podcast Jay and Tom ever did together — and somehow (with a whole lot of consistency and a little chaos ) we created 448 episodes delivering real-time, “Real Talk” market updates to WFRE listeners.

We rode through every kind of market:
hot markets
shifting markets
“wait… what is happening?” markets
…and yes — even COVID, when we found ways to keep the podcast going so listeners could still get real answers when it mattered most.

But here’s the real story…

Over the years, this became more than radio. We became friends… and honestly, family.
Tom didn’t just support our business — he trusted Jay with his own real estate needs, and the needs of the people closest to him.

And in between recording episodes, we made a lifetime of memories:

Bios

Andy Webb

Andy Webb is a 30-year radio veteran, WFRE’s Program Director, and co-host of Andy & Emma in the Morning weekdays from 5–10am. Radio has been his only career since getting his start in Meridian, MS in 1995, working his way from late-night shifts to morning drive across multiple formats, led by Country.

Andy is a 4-time Mississippi Association of Broadcasters “Radio Personality of the Year” and a 3-time Radio Ink “Best Program Director in Country Radio” honoree (2022–2024). A University of Southern Mississippi alum, his radio journey has taken him from Mississippi to South Carolina and now Frederick, MD. Off the air, Andy enjoys time with his wife and co-host Emma, their daughter Isabel, and hobbies like golfing, woodworking, and riding.
Emma Jay

Emma Jay began her radio career as an intern at an Alternative station in Greenville–Spartanburg, SC, before moving into Country radio in Charleston. She later worked in Laurel–Hattiesburg, MS, and made the move to Frederick in 2020.

Emma is WFRE’s Production Director, overseeing the creation of on-air commercials, and co-host of Andy & Emma in the Morning weekdays from 5–10am. She lives in Frederick with her husband and co-host Andy Webb, their Australian Shepherd Maya, and cats Miso and Lo Mein.
