MDOT SHA crews will be doing overnight work.
Frederick, Md (KM) The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration says the installation of guardrails along northbound Route 15 in Frederick will begin this weekend. Crews will be putting up the guardrails between West 7th Street and Rosemont Avenue. The work will take place from 7:00 PM until 5:00 AM starting on Sunday, and continuing through the midweek weather permitting.
The right lane and the shoulders on that stretch of northbound Route 15 will be closed as crews are working to establish a safe work zone..
The Rosemont Avenue exit to northbound Route 15 will be closed. Motorists who need to access northbound Route 15 from there will need to go south on the highway to the Jefferson Street exit, and then go left on to Jefferson Street, and then left again to northbound Route 15. Southbound Route 15 will not be affected by the guardrail installation, MDOT SHA says.
Cones, barrels and electronic signs will be use to guide motorists through the work zone. Drivers are asked to be patient and slow down when traveling through highway work zones.
An engineering study was conducted by MDOT SHA following the tanker truck explosion and fire on Route 15 earlier this month which determined a guardrail was needed to divide Route 15 from Apple Avenue. The agency says this is an interim measure until widening of the highway begins in 2026.
