One person was found dead at the scene, cause yet to be determined.
Ashburn, VA (JK) – Loudoun County authorities are investigating a deadly explosion and fire that occurred Monday morning at an apartment complex in Ashburn.
The incident was reported just before 8 a.m. in the 21000 block of Green Stable Square. Callers to 911 reported heavy smoke in the area and a possible fire in nearby woods, according to Loudoun County Fire and Rescue.
When firefighters arrived, they found a dumpster on fire and quickly extinguished the flames. A person was later found dead at the scene. Officials have not released the individual’s identity or any additional details.
The body has been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner for autopsy. The Loudoun County Sheriff’s Office and the Fire Marshal’s Office are conducting a joint investigation into what caused the explosion and fire.
