Tony Award Nominations, Why People Want Stephen Colbert Fired, & Chris Soules

Nominations for the 71st annual Tony Awards were announced this morning (Tuesday) and unlike last year, when Hamilton won a whopping 11 awards, other Broadway hits will have an opportunity to win.

This year’s big nominee, with 12 nods, is the musical Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet of 1812 which stars singer Josh Groban who earned a Best Actor nomination. Other nominees include Bette Midler (Hello, Dolly!), Cate Blanchett (The Present), Sally Field (The Glass Menagerie), Laura Linney (Lillian Hellman’s The Little Foxes), Laurie Metcalf (A Doll’s House, Part 2), Danny DeVito (Arthur Miller’s The Price) and Nathan Lane (The Front Page). James Earl Jones will receive a lifetime achievement award.

The Tony Awards, hosted by Kevin Spacey, will air live on June 11th on CBS. (E!)

Stephen Colbert is getting some heat for a Trump joke some are calling “homophobic.”

During his monologue Monday, the comedian took the president to task for telling Face the Nation host John Dickerson his show was “fake media.” So Stephen jokingly said things Dickerson could not say. One of those things was, “You talk like a sign language gorilla that got hit in the head. In fact, the only thing your mouth is good for is being Vladimir Putin’s [the c-word for male genitalia] holster.”

That joke got people on Twitter riled up and the hashtag #FireColbert began to trend.

Here’s what some people had to say:

  • “Unfunny show has now become a disgusting show. Turning off CBS. #FireColbert”
  • “#FireColbert Anti-American. Homophobic. Bigot.”
  • “#FIRECOLBERT His remarks about our president were disgusting even for him.”

Chris Soules bought alcohol and was drinking before his fatal crash in Iowa, prosecutors claim.

Though the former Bachelor left the scene of the accident, his lawyers have asked for the felony charge to be dropped. They argue that Chris did not break the law because he aided the victim and called 911. In response to the request for dismissal, prosecutors claim that Chris had empty and partially consumed alcohol containers in his truck. They also say he bought booze at a convenience store “shortly before” the crash.

It may still be difficult to prove Chris was drunk at the time of the crash, since he wasn’t arrested until hours later.

He was popped for a DUI more than 10 years ago. (TMZ)
