Mother Who Lost Six Children In Baltimore Fire Speaks Out

Tragedy struck a Baltimore family last week.  A house fire claimed six of Kate Malone’s nine children last Thursday.

Kate and her surviving children were hospitalized.  She was in critical condition, now officials say she is listed in good condition.

The fire happened while Kate’s husband was at work.  Her eight-year-old daughter managed to lead her mother and two of her siblings to safety, but the other six children died.

Kate thanked people for their support in a Facebook post and suggested honoring her children in different ways.  For 11- year-old Bridgette, make art.   Speak out against injustice for 10-year-old Amelia. For 3-year-old twins, Amanda and Zoe, solve a problem. Be helpful for 2-year-old Billy, and smile and laugh for 9-month old Daniel.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Kate is a staff member for House Rep. Elijah Cummings.
