One of the songs that Martina McBride sang at the Fair was Teenage Daughters. My favorite line from that song? "And if we're being honest then honestly I think I need a drink."
I raised BOYS. I had no idea, nor did I remember what it was like to be in the middle of a pack of teenage girls until Monday at the Fair. How do parents of female teens and tweens do it? Don't get me wrong. I LOVED being around these Energizer Battery 9Volt bundles of power BUT by the time they left I was exhausted.
I'm pretty sure that Hurricane Holly (yes that IS her real name) and her friends had just swept threw the Fair with no advance warning. Yep, they eased under the Doppler Radar and took the Fair by storm. I loved hearing their stories, answering all of their radio questions, learning about their lives and families and sharing secrets with my new found friends and listeners.
It was exciting to meet these girls and see what I might have been like a few short years ago. (OK - Maybe not so short, but it's MY blog let me enjoy it.) Lol.
I have a good friend who says that he spent the first year of his daughters life teaching her how to talk and the rest of her life "trying to get her to shut up." I'm not going that far, it was way too much fun for that!!! Lol. I might just agree with Martina though. When they left and I was alone in silence ... if we're being honest then honestly I think I need a drink.
