You hear me talk about Team WFRE and all of our training and all of our fundraising events....those people have become like family to me. We shared stories, I got to know their kids, their spouses, their aunts, their sisters, even their animals, (Lol) Each special in their own way....and each doing this for their own reasons. One now celebrating being cancer free after being diagnosed with stage 5 breast cancer almost 5 years ago, another doing something outside of her comfort zone after going through a sad divorce, one being blessed with healthy kids and wanting to give back, one doing it in honor of Brook, the daughter of a co-worker who is fighting her battle right now, and one who just continues to give and give to the kids in his community. No matter what the reason, we all had our hearts in the right place....we were able to give and help the kids at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. A very motivated group of people working towards the same goal. I AM SO PROUD OF EACH AND EVERY SINGLE ONE OF THEM.
We got to Nashville and learned that we were the top radio station in the country in our fundraising efforts. Don't think we weren't enjoying a little moment of pride with several high-fives and a few fist bumps!! They treated us like "ROCKSTARS". Dinner and an evening with some of the most talented songwriters. And we met Mae, who just spent 10 months at St. Jude and is now cancer free!!!!
We couldn't stay out late....early to bed and early to rise....as the marathon shuttle would arrive at 5:15am. (But who could really sleep anyway) There had been talk of some rain moving through Nashville but who would've imagined that they would have A RECORD BREAKING DOWNPOUR on the biggest day of our efforts. It didn't matter, I kept Mae in my thoughts the entire time I was walking / running 13.1 miles in the rain ....that was NOTHING compared to what she had gone through over the last few years.
Our hearts were so full of love and pride and support for one another and all of our hard work had paid off. We were AMAZING! Post race there was a concert which featured Craig Morgan and Sarah Darling. We hung out, celebrated as a team.
Sunday, brunch at John Rich's for the top fundraisers.... and wouldn't you know, Team WFRE had a large turn-out for this event.....We were loud and proud!
It's sad that it is over but in my heart I know we will do it all over again next year and we will be bigger and better.....If you'd like to join Team WFRE (I mean our family) Lol. email me at Holly@WFRE.com
God Bless Team WFRE!!!! LOVE all of you!!!!!
