{Katie’s Kitchen} Overnight French Toast Bake

Brought to you by Catoctin Mountain Orchard

This was a fun recipe to bake! I love french toast and the thought of cinnamon and baked pecans on top made my mouth immediately water!

I had friends coming into town early in the morning over the weekend and knew this was a great opportunity to make this recipe and because I wanted them to walk into the house and smell the sweet goodness of french toast 😉

I started off this recipe with a large loaf of fresh Italian bread sliced into 10 slices. Then cut into one inch pieces– toss that into your 9×13 in. baking dish. You’re going to need two mixing bowls- one for the dry topping and one for the eggs and milk, etc.

For the topping –combine brown sugar, flour, cinnamon and salt in a bowl and stir all together. Cut butter into small cubes and add to dry ingredients. Mash in with a fork (don’t worry about this too much, it’ll ball up and just be little pieces). Stir in chopped pecans. Cover and place in fridge.

Then, in your other mixing bowl, whisk together milk, eggs, vanilla, sugar, and cinnamon. Pour over bread in the casserole dish. Cover and chill overnight.

The next morning preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Uncover the topping bowl and your prepared baking dish from the fridge. Sprinkle topping over the bread mixture and bake uncovered for 35-45 minutes until golden and bread is baked through.

Then, top with maple syrup or powdered sugar!! Yum!
